BAHA, 26 July 2007 — A Saudi groom was fined SR4,000 ($1,066) by a tribal committee for violating terms of an agreement that camera phones would be barred and women would be appropriately dressed. After the wedding the groom was called on by the tribal committee informing him that they discovered that some camera phones were snuck into the wedding hall and that they had received complaints from women complaining of women guests showing off too much skin. The tribal committee said the money would be put in a fund to help other tribal members in need. Due to exorbitant marriage costs, many tribes across Saudi Arabia have set a maximum amount of money that grooms may spend on a marriage and have created funds to help poorer members of the tribe in times of need.
