MADINAH, 27 July 2007 — The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice in Madinah recently arrested an African national, who was practicing black magic at a house in a village outside Madinah. Police and commission members had been on the lookout for the man — the third member of a gang of magicians — since last year.
“His arrest comes following complaints about a man practicing black magic at a village outside Madinah. The magician worked at a trinket shop and claimed he was an expert in spells that would make people love each other. He would charge SR1,000 for his services,” said a commission member.
On receiving the report, an undercover commission member sought the help of the man saying he wanted a woman to love him.
“He told the suspect that she wanted a huge dowry. The suspect told the client that he’d arrange the marriage with no dowry at all. He then he gave him a talisman and some papers with strange drawings and writings on them,” said the commission member, adding that commission members arrested the man and handed him into the custody of local police.
The commission members’ searched the man’s home and found several items used in black magic and a letter to another magician in Africa. In the letter, the man requested the help of the magician to secure the release of his friends that were arrested last year.
