JEDDAH, 1 August 2007 — A young customer at a Jeddah bank encountered something of a mystery when he went to drive away after doing business on Sunday. His car, locked and carefully parked on a road to the rear of the bank and adjacent to a security post, had simply disappeared. Examination of the road surface revealed no broken glass from forced entry, there were no witnesses nearby and the security guards declared that they hadn’t seen anything suspicious. The bank staff, which denied that the car had been removed in the interest of security, called the police to help solve the mystery. After a couple of hours of investigation, they came up with no answers at all. It was then that they received a call saying that the car had been found outside the bank. However, the car had reappeared at the front of the premises. The police concluded, much to the merriment of the bank officials and the motley crew of police officers, that the young owner was “confused, probably as a result of being in love.” The car declined to comment on its whereabouts for the period in question.
Saudi Woman Celebrates Divorce
ABHA, 1 August 2007 — A Saudi woman, working as a teacher, spent SR5,000 to throw a party to celebrate her divorce. The daily Okaz reported yesterday that the woman threw a party for all her friends after successfully divorcing her abusive husband.
