DUBAI, 1 January 2008 — UMA Motors Sports team won the Lumina CSV Middle East Championship 2nd Round held at the Dubai Autodrome over the weekend. Saudi driver Abdul Aziz Al-Yaeesh, last season’s runner-up, earned victory for the UMA team in the event organized by Chevrolet Motorsport.
The first day of the event marked dramatic developments. Al-Yaeesh took the lead in the fifth lap after he gave an exciting performance beating many drivers and staying ahead, but in upholding Bahraini driver Fahd Al-Muslim’s protest race officer Eli Samaan relegated the Saudi driver behind the Bahraini driver.
Al Muslim’s protest was that he had to deviate from the path due to Al-Yaeesh’s wrong moves.
On the 2nd day, the race witnessed a strong competition between Al-Yaeesh and Al-Muslim, with the former ultimately winning the round. “My team’s strategy worked well. Despite what happened on the first day, my performance on both the days put me ahead of the rest,” said Al-Yaeesh who collected in all 58 points to top the round.
Al-Muslim was the first runner-up and another Bahraini driver Raed Rafei the second runner-up. Waid Telemsani, chief operating officer, UMA, congratulated the winning team. “We will continue to support such events in a bid to discover new talents in motor sport,” he said. UMA Motor Sports Team has in a short time achieved spectacular successes.
They won the Mobily Auto Cross in Alkhobar and the first race of the Lumina CSV Challenge Middle East in Bahrain. Results at the end of the 2nd round: Fahd Al-Muslim 78 points, Abdul Aziz Al-Yaeesh 58, Ahmad Hamada 49, Hamad ibn Isa Al-Khalifa 43, Fawwaz Al-Qusaibi 37, Adel Shagi 33, Gack Lafeh 30 and Fahd Hezam, also of UMA Motors Sports 29.
