JEDDAH, 19 January 2008 — The committee in charge of holding first-ever elections for the boards of the Kingdom’s various sports federations yesterday published the preliminary list of candidates.
Candidates who were not listed could approach the appeal panel within five days to get them enlisted, the committee said.
Last November, Prince Sultan ibn Fahd, head of the Youth Welfare Presidency, announced the presidency’s plan to hold elections for the boards of the Saudi Olympic Committee and various sports federations. He said it would be held in 10 phases.
More than 45 people belonging to different sports clubs are contesting seats in the Saudi Football Federation board.
The committee also gave the lists of contestants to the boards of the Saudi Federation for Athletics, Saudi Basketball Federation, Saudi Volleyball Federation, Saudi Handball Federation, Saudi Table Tennis Federation, Saudi Tennis Federation, Saudi Swimming Federation, Saudi Karate Federation, Saudi Judo and Taekwondo Federation, Saudi Wrestling & Boxing Federation, Saudi Squash Federation, Saudi Fencing Federation, Saudi Gymnastics Federation and Saudi Weightlifting & Bodybuilding Federation.
