JEDDAH, 20 January 2008 — Thursday and Friday night’s games across the Kingdom showed how the basketball league is progressing. After six games, three teams are still undefeated.
There is a three-way tie for first place. Once again, the Madinah and Jeddah teams are leading the way in the Saudi Basketball Federation’s season. Ansar lead the way with the best defense in the league after winning all their six matches.
Ohud are second with a 6-0 record. Al-Ahli are rounding out the top three with 6-0 stats. On Thursday, Ittihad came second after losing Qadisiya 85-83.
On Friday, Ittihad rebounded with the win against Nahda 87-58. The victory earned Ittihad 5 wins and one loss. Also, Ahli outfought Qadisiya 89-77 and pushed them into third place with a 4 wins 2 loss record. Masera, Hilal, Nahda and Fath, each have 2 wins and 4 defeats. Wehda, have 1 win with 5 defeats. Arabi, and Nasr failed to score victories. Most of the teams have their import players in place. Each team can have two according to rules.
The import players mainly from America have been doing most of the scoring for the teams. Ahli’s players combined for 76 points out of a total 102 points last week. That left only 26 points, scored by the rest of the team. In most of the games, it has been the same with the import players scoring over half of the point totals.
