RIYADH, 4 April 2008 — Friends Cricket Club became the champions at the recently concluded Gama -Laksiri Six a Side Cricket Tournament here.
The tournament featuring 20 teams was held at the Sports Medicine Hospital complex. This year’s tournament which was held for the fourth year in succession, was sponsored by Laksiri Cargo Services Riyadh.
The finalists were Friends Club and ABT Cargo (A). The other two teams to reach the semifinals were Power Boys (Arasco) and Electro. ABT Cargo (A) finished second and Power Boys (Arasco) third in the tourney .
Batting first in the finals, ABT Cargo (A) scored 53 for 2 in 5 overs. Ilham wound up with 18 not out while Bunty scored15 for ABT Cargo.
Zakir and Shiyam each took one wicket for Friends Club. In reply, Friends Club scored 55 for no loss in 4.1 overs. Openers Faizer top-scored with 36 runs not out and Shiyam added 9 runs. .
The Man of the Series and Best Bowler awards went to Lasantha Pushpakumara from ABT Cargo.
Man of the Match in the finals was Mohamed Faizal from Friends Club .
Chucrallah Zard, hospital administrator at the Prince Faisal Ibn Fahd Sports Medicine Hospital, was the chief guest at the awards ceremony, while Mohammed Taslim, manager , Laksiri Cargo services, distributed the trophies to the winners.
