JEDDAH, 20 April 2008 — Al-Ahli club’s honorary board members held an emergency meeting in Jeddah Hilton hotel yesterday to discuss key issues that concern the future of the club and also plan for the next year. But the post of the next club president was still vacant with the members deciding to take up the issue in their next meeting.
Prince Khaled ibn Abdullah, honorary member of Ahli Club and president of the board of trustees of Ahli Academy, attended the meeting. Members discussed the appointment of a new president but had not arrived at a consensus. The withdrawal of Prince Fahd ibn Khaled ibn Abdullah ibn Muhammad due to personal reasons, after incumbent Ahmad Al-Marzooki had submitted his resignation, still left the post vacant. The members had earlier nominated Prince Fahd to head the club for next year.
The meeting also discussed the sponsorship contract, which is worth SR250 million for five years. Prince Khaled sent a memo to Prince Sultan ibn Fahd, president of the Presidency of Youth Welfare, outlining the modalities of the financial contract.
The members also expressed their dissatisfaction with the performance of the football team, especially their embarrassing 6-1 defeat against Al-Shabab in the first leg of the King’s Cup for Champions.
The members promised to work for the betterment of the team and hoped that their efforts would enable the team to bounce back. The board members agreed to form a committee of three people, Tareq Kayal, Ahmad Eid and Ayman Abdul Ghafar, to receive the nominations of the new club president.
Meanwhile, large number of Ahli fans gathered in front of the club to express their dissatisfaction with the performance of the football team.
