RIYADH, 9 May 2008 — Saudi golfers Fahad Al-Mansour and Turki Hussain won the second Annual Dirab Sanad Charity Golf Tournament in benign conditions yesterday at Dirab Golf Club.

Al-Mansour and Hussain grabbed first place via the countback over the pair of Mark Davies and Attila Soki after both pairs had a matching net score of 63s in the Texas Scramble two ball better ball format competition in which 30 percent of the team’s handicap was used to compute the net score.

Korean M. S. Kim and his Saudi partner Yousef Al-Mahfouz clinched third place after winning the countback from Alastair McIlroy and David Corbett, who in turn won the fourth position over New Zealanders John Palalagi and Julian Bennett. All three two-man teams shot 64s.

The competitive fire keeps burning but, at least for a day, it had to take a backseat to the golfers’ generous side as the Dirab golf community, with a lot of help from the sponsorship contributions, raised SR255,000 in the fund-raising tournament for the benefit of Sanad Children’s Cancer Support Society.

Fahad led the others in going the extra mile in support of Dirab’s golf for a cause project when he promptly donated for auction his share of the first prize of full set of Cobra clubs that went for SR6,000 and the winning bidder was McIlroy.

Sean Boyd picked up one of the three Xerox multifunction office machines for SR2,500, Dirab put their name on the other machine for the same amount and SABB raised the bar and offered SR5,000 for the third Xerox machine auctioned off. In all an additional SR16,000 was raised in the auction.

“It’s a good opportunity to do something. It’s always a good feeling to be able to help,” said Fahad of his kind gesture.

Of his game Fahad said it’s getting a lot better. “As Texas Scramble go the key is game management,” said Fahad who also won the recent Saudi Banque Fransi tournament with the same format.

Fahad and Hussain mixed 3 birdies and 2 bogeys to go one-under going out on the beautifully set up layout.

They finished with a one-under 71 after an even par 36 coming home. The straightest drive awards went to the husband-and-wife team of Barry and Denise Holding.

Marwan Koossa was the lucky winner of the return air ticket to Casablanca from Royal Air Maroc for winning the closest to pin in the men’s division. Denise also won the ladies closest to pin award. Gift certificates from Banana Republic and dinner for two vouchers from Radisson SAS Hotel Riyadh were raffled off.

Prince Mohammad ibn Faisal ibn Abdullah, patron of Sanad Children’s Cancer Support Society, attended the tournament and presented the prizes to the winners. Sanad General Manager Samia Mohammad ibn Ammar came along with her staff.

Saudi Golf Federation President and Dirab course owner Khaled Abunayyan thanked the sponsors and participants for helping make the tournament a big success.

He also cited Sanad project manager Andrea Corbett, Sanad event manager Fahad Al-Mansour, Dirab Golf Club Manager Bouchaib El Jadiani and Dirab Golf Committee chaired by Nassser Udin Siddiqi.
