RIYADH, 24 May 2008 — Saudi rider Abdullah Waleed Al-Sharbatly and his mount Quebec won the title in the Equestrian Championship organized by Saudi Equestrian Federation (SEF) here.
Al-Sharbatly became the first to win the King Abdul Aziz Cup and a black Toyota Aurion from Abdul Latif Jameel Company. Fahd Al-Eid was in second place, followed by Khaled Al-Eid in third position.
Prince Nawaf ibn Faisal, vice-president of General Presidency of Youth Welfare and president of the SEF, and Prince Abdullah ibn Fahd ibn Abdullah, vice president of SEF, and a number of equestrian lovers supported the four-day event that ended on Tuesday. The excitement reached its peak in the 13th round. Nine experienced and strong riders qualified to participate in the final round.
Bayt Al Riyadh Cup, meant for the winner of the 12th specialized race, went to rider Khaled Abdul Latif. Prince Nawaf presented it to him. Abdurrahman Al-Hazani and Fares Al-Khatab Abdulkareem were in second and third places of this race.
Mohammad Ba Hassan, ALJ public relations and events manager, said that the championship featured 69 elite riders competing under the leadership of Khaled Eid, the Kingdom’s national team captain.
He added that ALJ’s award of a black Toyota Aurion 2008 to Al-Sharbatly demonstrated the company’s support for this sport and encouragement of young people interested in equestrian.
He congratulated the winners of all the rounds of the championship. “The participation of ALJ comes within the framework of its strategy to develop community service programs, which are among the targets that seek to put the company on the list of core priorities,” he said.
