JEDDAH, 29 May 2008 — For the second year running, Alshifa Honey sponsored a girls basketball tournament. Jeddah United Sports Co. (JUSC) organized the event to promote a healthy lifestyle.

Energy drinks that consisted Alshifa honey, lemon and water were served along with Alshifa juices, strawberries and bananas to encourage children to drink healthy and natural juices rather than the carbonated and high caffeine drinks.

The organizers’ objectives were to fight obesity and diabetes — which has reached alarming rates in Saudi Arabia — by promoting exercise and natural products and explaining the importance of honey as an important ingredient that energizes the body and mind.

Four teams participated in the championship for Ages 7-12. First place winners were the Yellow Team of Dima Fatani, Lamees Bahrawi, Lama Moumina, Amna Mosley and Reema Abdulghaffar.

The Most Valuable Players were: Lamees Bahrawi from the Yellow Team, Fahda Alsolaiman from the Green Team, Joud Moumina from the Blue Team, and Kinda Bakr from the Red Team.

“We were pleased to sponsor the Alshifa Honey Basketball tournament for a second year in a row. The remarkable success of the tournament last year and the obvious interest and participation of many teams encouraged us to continue sponsoring the event for the second year,” said Samir Kurdi, vice president of Alsunbula Group.

Alshifa Honey gave out the championship cup to the winning team in addition to MP3 for each player. Alshifa also distributed honey jars, mugs and water bottles to the participating teams.

The other themed tournaments Jeddah United Sports Co. has organized included “Back to School,” “Father and Son,” “Women Street Basketball,” “Drink Milk,” “Friends of Hawazin” (Cancer Compassion) and “Anti-Smoking.”
