RIYADH, 9 June 2008 — Saudi Arabia coach Helio dos Anjos has been replaced by Nasser Al-Jowhar.
“(Dos Anjos) has been unable to develop and employ the technical capabilities of the players although he was given the opportunity during previous games,” the Saudi Football Federation said in a statement yesterday.
The 50-year-old Dos Anjos, who is Brazilian, led Saudi Arabia for a year.
Al-Jowhar, a 65-year-old former football player, has previously coached the national team.
The announcement came a day after Saudi Arabia defeated Lebanon 2-1 in an Asian group qualifier for the 2010 World Cup.
Saudi Arabia is second in Group 4 with nine points.
