RIYADH: Saudi Hollandi Capital (SHC) continued their climb up the leaderboard as they scored back-to-back Team of the Week victories during the fifth session in the Interbank Tenpin Bowling League 2008 Conference at the Riyadh InterContinental Hotel Bowling Center here.
Fahad Al-Heza of Bank Al-Bilad was the winner of the individual Bowler of the Week race on a night when the tournament held its official opening ceremony and presentation of teams in their uniforms. Among the VIP guests who attended the occasion were Salman Al-Quraini, Saudi Hollandi Bank (SHB) senior manager, government relations; Ibrahim Al-Sheddi, SHB training manager and Marcus Cleverton, SABB deputy GM personal finance services.
Captained by Gerry Ayonon, SHC decisively beat PNB Unified 290-199 points on total pinfalls of 3,758-3,733 to move up two places to second in the team standings.
League leaders SAIB kept their pursuers at bay by beating Bank Al-Bilad 190-130 (3,613-3,586), while SABB Visa-MasterCard discovered it was the wrong time to take on a vengeful ANB-SAMA squad whose pride had been hurt after being shut out by SHC the previous week. The result was a 200-0 shutout defeat for Visa-MasterCard on total pinfalls of 3,390-2,853.
BSF drew with SABB Takaful 100-100 on total pinfalls of 3,371-3,366 in the other match in the five-man team league event sponsored by the participating banks in cooperation with their respective team captains. Pitted against the bye team, SABB Amanah EasyBuy tallied 180 points and 3,411 pinfalls. After losing the first game, SHC won the last three of the match using a six-man rotation.
At the helm of the SHC charge were the trio of veteran Efren Castro, Bert Lopez and Ed Mendoza who shot 773, 757 and 746 in that order. Rodel Yap tossed in 728 while Gil Hembra and Clem Salazar added 580 and 174.
In bouncing back from a heavy defeat, ANB-SAMA effectively parlayed a seven-man offense with skipper Teody Zulaybar taking charge at 735. Jhun Macarandan came through with 687 to go with the 530 by Bernie Torres, 465 by Deo Santiago, 441 by Jun Bolocboloc, 367 by Clem Guelas and 166 by Remy Generales.
SAIB called six players for the match against Al-Bilad, led by Dong Calub who had the top score of 764. Rey Dela carded 748, Mike Benito 718, Alfredo Villarosa 707, Fred Cadavero 361 and Boy Rogel 315.
Al-Heza scored the high series of 834 on lines of 180, 184, 171 and 179 to emerge the best player of the night and in the process give Bank Al-Bilad some consolation. The leading scorers at Amanah EasyBuy were Ramon sadang 724, Francis Guron 714 and Jaffer Al-Kathiri 703.
