JEDDAH: BASA (Bridge Association of Saudi Arabia) has recently been recognized by the BFAME (Bridge Federation of Asia and Middle East). BFAME is Zone 4 of the WBF (World Bridge Federation). The 14th BFAME Championship was held in Karachi in 2007. India narrowly defeated Pakistan, and both teams earned the right to play in the prestigious ‘Bermuda Bowl’, the Bridge World Championships.
The 15th BFAME Championships are scheduled for April 2009 in Damascus, Syria. BASA is currently accepting membership applications from all bridge players in Saudi Arabia. All bridge players, from all nationalities and skill levels are welcome. Membership is currently being given “free of charge” in an effort to sign up all in-Kingdom players. If you already have an existing bridge club with you and your friends, BASA will give you immediate recognition.
BASA Masterpoints will be awarded for any sanctioned event. Online tournaments are planned for the near future. BASA will also assist any bridge club to organize live tournaments for the awarding of masterpoints. Lifetime masterpoints will be accumulated starting in 2009 and awards will go to annual point leaders in all divisions.
