JEDDAH: Al Mottawer got off to a fast start, winning a Team of the Week and Bowler of the Week double on opening night of the Jeddah Monday Bowling League 10th Season at the Bowling City here.
The all-Saudi Mottawer squad edged out D’ Shawly Striker for the distinction as the first Team of the Week winner, 40 to 38 points.
Ahmed Trigano completed a Mottawer double when he rolled the high series of 696 on lines of 280, 205 and 199.
After securing the 11 first-place points Mottawer never ranked lower than third in the next two games as Shawly gave chase throughout to finish with total pinfalls of 3,120 that gave the squad another 11 points.
Zaki Yassen and Badr Banjar did full games of 656 and 514 in support of Trigano, while valuable two-game contributions came from Mohammad Garoth 199-191, Waheeb Kamgar 200-180 and Ahmed Sindi 241-227.
Shawly Striker, which went second-fourth-second for 10, eight and 10 points in the three-game race, drew the top tallies of 639 and 615 from Arnel Bautista and Ed Bolido. Shawly also got help from Leo Lopez 567, Nestor Sanosa 173-211, Max Salang 194-215, and Cloyd Pena 200-171.
Inserts Amigos ended up third on the night with 31 points followed by Kanny Milk 28, Luvenor 26, FVJ Jammer 25 and Insektos 21. Bowling City, International, Top Gun and Gulf Oil rounded out the teams in the fold on 18, 17, 13 and 7 points in that order.
Inserts, not to be confused with Insektos, ranked third in the first game and overall output and that was about all for the night as the duo of Randy Mata and Rudy Punzalan led the way with 642 and 623. Alex Flora tallied 575 and Ernie Geslani 564 as the two other players to go full games, while
Danny Bautista and Mar Cabrera completed the scoring with 193-200 and 181, respectively.
Kanny Milk collapsed in the third game after going fourth-first in the first two. The Milkmen had Archie Santos 606 and Raul de los Reyes 603 as the top scorers. Dhads Gueco and Tommy de Castro added 577 and 548.
