RIYADH: The Third Open Bowling Tournament rolls off today at the Universal Bowling Center near the Prince Faisal Olympic Complex here. The tournament is under the patronage of General Presidency of Youth Welfare President Prince Sultan bin Fahd.
“The Kingdom’s hosting of this event comes within the care the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah gives to youth and sports, with glowing national and international achievements,” Prince Abdulhakim bin Musaed bin Abdulaziz, UBC director, told newsmen at a press conference Thursday.
The prince added that this is the third time the country is hosting the tournament at the state-of-the-art bowling facility, and some well-known international names from more than 20 countries will be participating, including those from the US, Canada, European countries, Australia, Costa Rica, Columbia, Asia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, China, and Arab countries. The tournament will run through May 8.
Prince Abdulhakim said that the tournament enjoys global interest, and crowns the efforts of the center in providing a world-class sporting environment for bowling fans in the Kingdom, in which they can rub elbows with the world’s best bowlers and draw on their experience, which will boost the game nationally.
“Bowling has been enjoying increasing popularity in the Kingdom, as is evident with more sponsorships and support from the private sector.”
Domino’s Pizza is throwing its full backing to the tournament. An agreement has been signed between the pizza giant and the International Bowling Center designating Domino’s Pizza as the major sponsor of the championship.
Prince Abdulhakim praised Domino’s for their sponsorship, saying that the private sector should follow their example in sponsoring such sporting activities.
Ibrahim Al-Jammaz, vice-president of Specialized Catering Services, a member of Al-Jammaz Group, master franchisee of the Domino’s Pizza in the Middle East, North Africa and Pakistan, said that his company is proud to sponsor the event.
