JEDDAH: Al-Shabab advanced to the next round in the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup of Champions after winning against the Makkah-based Al-Wehda in the second-leg match 2-0 at King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh.
Shabab crushed Wehda in the first-leg match in Makkah 5-2.
The winner was determined from the first-leg match as Wehda seemed to have no chance in the return leg.
Yousuf Al-Salem scored the two goals for Shabab in the 18th and 41st minute.
Shabab will face the winner between Al-Hilal and Al-Nasr.
Riyadh derby today
Meanwhile, Riyadh fans are in for another derby today when two of the Kingdom’s heavyweights, Nasr and Hilal will clash in the second leg match in the same tournaent.
The first leg ended 1-1.
Hilal enters the match with the determination to eliminate Nasr and add another title after their Crown Prince Cup triumph.
Hilal showed good form during their AFC Champions League defeat of Ahli of UAE 3-1 last Wednesday.
The match gave enough time for Hilal to recoup and are now set to pass this difficult test against Nasr.
Nasr on the other hand are on the verge of ending the year without any silverware and will be looking forward to use their last chance.
Nasr are ready for the match and it is expected that they would be playing the same lineup. Nasr lost the final of Prince Faisal bin Fahd Cup against Shabab on penalty kicks 4-3.
In Jeddah at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal stadium, fans will get another chance to witness a top class match between Al-Ittihad and Al-Ittifaq.
Ittihad won the first leg match in Dammam 1-0 with a late goal by Talal Al-Meshal. Despite the win, Ittihad did not convince their fans with their performance.
Ittihad continued to add a question mark on their performance in the AFC Champions League when they tied with Al-Jazirah of UAE 1-1 at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal stadium last Wednesday.
A solitary goal lead against Ittifaq is not enough, especially against one of the best team seen in action in the AFC Champions League. Ittifaq crushed Shabab of UAE 4-1 on their home turf last Tuesday.
Ittihad needs more than luck in order to advance to the semifinals and it will be difficult to please their already angry fans.
