JEDDAH: The Jeddah Cricket Association (JCA) has waived registration fees for clubs signing up for its upcoming tournament. The registration begins during the clubs’ meeting on May 7 and to continue for 15 days.
This was decided during the JCA’s Executive Committee meeting and election of office bearers at a local restaurant on Thursday.
The proceedings started with the recitation of the holy Qur’an by Azizullah Sheriff. Faiz Al Abideen, the newly elected chairman, welcomed and thanked the JCA office bearers and the executive committee who attended the meeting and rendered their precious time for the construction of the new JCA cricket complex at Asfan.
Majeed Ul Hasan, the general secretary, presided over the meeting. For his part, JCA President Mohammad Iqbal thanked Al Abideen and Humayoon Farooq for providing land on which to build the new cricket complex. He also appreciated the efforts of Aizaz Ashraf Toor and Syed Arif Hashmi for their efforts earlier to locate the grounds which did not materialize for some reasons and thanked all the executive committee members and well wishers who have shown solidarity with him and the organization during the difficult times. Aijaz Ahmed Khan, the vice president and in charge of the facilities development, had given the budgetary figures for the ongoing construction work of the grounds and assured the house all the works would be completed in time for the tentative date of the complex inauguration.
A minimum of three players will be selected among the registered clubs for the opening festival matches tentatively set for May 22. On the same day special matches are to be simultaneously conducted. The Executive Committee members agreed to contribute in the construction expenses and some clubs came forward and volunteered as sponsors. They are Kanoo, Zultec, Natco and Al Abideen.
Syed Amjad Hasan, son of Syed Majeed Ul Hasan, did his bit as the designer of JCA fliers that will highlight the JCA activities, sponsors, teams standings, matches schedules on weekly basis. He will be also responsible for the construction of the JCA website and the organization’s posting on Facebook. The meeting concluded with a duwa by JCA Chairman Al Abideen.
