Resty Sibug and Zoilo Holganza were probably the happiest among the pack to show up.

Sibug shot his first career hole-in-one while placing second in Class A (handicap 0-14) while Big Zoilo ended a spate of runner-up finishes since December of last year to secure a victory in his division.

Sibug, one in a line of FGAers to show rapid improvement in the game, used a 7-iron to get the ace on the par-3 No. 15.

An assistant area manager with electro-mechanical contractor Saudi TKT, Sibug achieved the rare feat on the fly, his Nike 2 ball landing straight into the cup.

“It really felt good when I hit the shot. It was really my desire as much as any golfer’s to make a hole-in-one. I’m lucky I did it,” said Sibug.

The 9-handicap Sibug finished second to Thai golfer Phajon on countback after he and Edwin Añonuevo, who played off 8 handicap, tied on 71. Phajon, with a 14 handicap, matched Sibug’s gross score of 80 to shoot a sparkling 8-under 66 on the par-73 rolling layout.

Ben Bollozos, with a 21 handicap, won Class B (15-21) after shooting a 71 net with Brandy Pillai and Aries Ramirez, of Al-Haram Center, second and third on 72 and 79.

The battle for Class C (22-28) honors had been a two-way race between Holganza and Patrick Santos.

Holganza and Santos, with a 24 and 23 handicap,  were locked in a see-saw race in the Stableford format competition until Santos went up by three after the 14th hole.

Keeping his composure in what has become a pressure-packed match play contest against Santos, Holganza took the last four holes to wipe out the deficit and win by one.

Holganza, who hit pars in that stretch to Santos’s bogeys, compiled a winning 41 points. Santos had 40 for second place while Dr. Abi was third on 38 points.

Tony Lizardo claimed the nearest to the pin award in the tournament sponsored by new FGA (Filipino Golf Association) members Benjamin Santuyo, senior credit analyst with SABB, and Rafael Clemente, AVP, Corporate Banking Group at The National Commercial Bank.

The hardworking FGA President Cesar Rosario said only 36 out of the 50 that registered played in the event due to the inclement weather. The awards ceremony took place at the old RGC clubhouse. Lunch was catered by Hacienda Restorante.
