- PRETORIA: Spain reached the last 16 of the World Cup on Friday with a 2-1 win over Chile, which also qualified from Group H as runners-up at the expense of Switzerland, which tied at 0-0 with Honduras.
David Villa and Andres Iniesta gave Spain a 2-0 lead at halftime, before Rodrigo Millar scored for Chile shortly after the break.
In the 24th minute, Villa shot from 45 meters into a wide-open Chile goal, and Iniesta's doubled the lead in the 37th. Chile's Marco Estrada was then sent off with a second yellow card.
Millar's shot in the 47th minute from near the top of the penalty area deflected off the knee of defender Gerard Pique and over helpless Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas.
Chile needed only a draw to win the group, while Spain needed a victory to guarantee advancement to the round of 16.
