- LONDON: Police were questioning two 15-year-old boys on Monday on suspicion of murder over the death of a teenage girl found in woods in south Wales.
The body of Rebecca Aylward, 15, was discovered just outside Aberkenfig near Bridgend on Sunday morning. She had last been seen on Saturday after being dropped off by relatives to visit a friend. Her mother reported her missing when she failed to return home. Detectives gave no details as to how she had died.
“Our thoughts are with Rebecca’s family who are naturally devastated,” said Detective Superintendent Paul Burke. “A murder investigation is under way and I would appeal for anyone with information to please contact the incident room.” Counselling services were being offered to friends of Aylward, her school, the Archbishop McGrath Catholic High School, said in a statement.
“We are shocked and saddened to learn of Rebecca’s death. She was a very well-liked and hard working member of our school community,” the statement added.
