Qadi who is a housewife and business employee, quit her job to develop her talent in the world of baking. “We have all been born to prepare sweet cupcakes. But, since my husband never eats sweets, I always come up with dishes to surprise him. That’s how the idea of creating savory cupcakes started,” she said.

However, being salty is not the only thing that sets her cupcakes apart from other places, but the fact that they are also healthy. “My aim was not only to surprise my husband, but to come up with a healthy cupcake that everybody can eat without being afraid of calories, diabetes or cholesterol,” she added.

The secret to her creation is quite simple: “I use the same ingredients as I would when making sweet cupcakes, but instead of using sugar, I use salt. Also, I use eggs instead of oil, as well as black pepper, olives, sauces and many other flavors.”

Her cupcakes are also smaller in size than what is available at coffeehouses as she wanted to reduce the number of calories. Furthermore, instead of using cream, she created a healthier version using nonfat milk, half a cup of sugar and half a cup of oil. As a result, her sweet cupcakes are lower in calories, sugar and fat.

She started by preparing several salty cupcakes using different contents and presenting them to her husband, her family, friends and neighbors. After passing the taste test, she decided to further develop them using additional ingredients.

At the moment, she has savory cupcakes filled with white cheese, pizza, mushrooms, chicken, spinach, sliced meat and mayonnaise, spices and boiled vegetables. However, she is constantly brainstorming for additional kinds of salty cupcakes and wants to further develop her career.

“I discovered that there weren’t any decent cookie shops that sold salty cupcakes with different fillings. So, I participated in a large number of bazaars and exhibitions to display my creations,” she said.

The idea attracted all sorts of people: Overweight, elderly and youth who wanted to eat healthy. “My cupcakes even attracted children because of their strange look, as I decorated them according to their fillings,” she said.

To satisfy children’s sweet tooth, Qadi creates sweet cupcakes as well, but these are much healthier from what is available elsewhere.

“Even though I prepare sweet cupcakes, I try not to make them very sweet. I do that by using half the amount of sugar, and adding natural jams, fruit and ingredients such as strawberries, vanilla, bananas and coconut.

Such healthy products are attracting a large number of customers, especially those arranging wedding parties and buffet dinners. “A lot of women are asking me to create special cupcakes for them,” she said. “I also received many offers from schools who want to provide healthy products for students, but I refused all offers because I want to have my own shop.”

She is currently planning on establishing her own shop. “The shop will display different kinds of cupcakes, both savory and semisweet. In addition, I am planning to launch a special section that presents diet cupcakes for people who are looking to lose weight, which will make it the first shop to offer that. I will cooperate with a number of experts who will prepare the cupcakes based on a certain number of calories,” she said.
