- NEW YORK: The FBI says it has arrested two members of Bernard Madoff’s back office staff.
- Joann Crupi was arrested Thursday morning at her home in New Jersey.
The FBI says in a statement that charges are to be unsealed later Thursday. The defendants will be brought to Manhattan.
Authorities said previously that Bongiorno was a staff supervisor and was responsible for answering questions from clients of the now-jailed financier about their purported investments. They said she allegedly oversaw the fabrication of account statements and other documents.
The civil papers, announced in June, sought to recoup $5 million from the two employees.
The names of their attorneys were not immediately known.
The US attorney’s office declined to comment.
