Basil Al-Ghalayini, chairman of BMG Foundation, said, “We are honored to name our Cup for this year after our beloved King in recognition of his humanitarian and noble work throughout the years.”

This year’s flagship event on June 15 at the Guards Polo Club in Windsor will be held in the presence of Queen Elizabeth, and will include the awards ceremony for “Our Water, Our Life” three top winners.

A short video on the foundation’s noble achievements in the last 15 years was played during the private lunch as well as a moving video on water facts and figures especially created for the foundation’s new initiative “Our Water, Our Life,” a pioneering scheme on water conservation, aiming to engage the vibrant minds of the youth.

The competition calls for the university students from the GCC to submit the most innovative, cost efficient and creative awareness campaign aimed at guiding households on how to apply different efficient methods for water conservation.

As part of the 15th anniversary celebrations, BMG will also be hosting on June 16 a Foundation Classics Concert in which a specially commissioned symphony on water will debut in honor of the “Our Water, Our Life” initiative.

The renowned composer, Vartan Melkonian, will be conducting a water symphony under the name of “Amwaj” to be played by the London Philharmonic Orchestra at Central Hall Westminster in London. This marks the first time since Handel’s 1717 piece has been commissioned about water.

The campaign of the winning plan will be implemented from July until December 2011. The Saudi Water and Power Forum (SWPF) in December will act as a platform for the closing ceremony, where a retrospective on the campaign and its benefits toward the communities in the region will be presented.

As part of BMG Foundation’s Art Alive Program established in 2002, a water themed photography competition among the talented Saudi youth will be organized with the awards ceremony to take place during the Saudi Water and Power week in December this year in Jeddah.
