Zardari earlier said that the sitting party MNA from this constituency, Nabil Gabol, will not be given ticket in the next elections from this constituency.

Kachhi Coordination Committee Chairman, Muhammad Hussain said Zardari has directed Bilawal to contest 2013 General Elections from Lyari.

Zardari presided over a high-level meeting at Bilawal House on Monday to discuss developmental projects under Lyari package.

Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Interior Minister Rehman Malik, MNA Abdul Qadir Patel, provincial ministers Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza, Agha Siraj Durrani, Manzoor Wassan, Murad Ali Shah, Rafique Engineer, Sharjeel Memon, including senior government officials, attended the meeting.

The meeting reviewed the progress on projects, including roads, sewerage system, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University, flyovers and water supply schemes.

The president directed that the bottlenecks, if any, in the developmental projects be removed immediately. He also directed for early completion of all the projects for the benefit of the people of Lyari and asked for regular submission of reports in this regard.

PPP leaders said that Bilawal would not be jumping headfirst into politics and would first learn the workings of the party inside-out.

“Bilawal has specifically expressed interest in the party’s youth wing, which was very dear to Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto,” MNA Farahnaz Isphahani said.

“He will be looking into modernizing the Peoples Youth Organization, and bringing in new ideas, media technology etc. through intellectual and practical exercises.”

Bilawal, who turns 23 this September, is two years away from being eligible to run for a provincial or National Assembly seat.

Having graduated from Oxford University last year, he could emerge as PPP’s much-needed progressive voice, given what appears to be his interest in social issues and stance on minorities.

Bilawal will take active part in politics from Sept. 23.
