- DHAKA: An anti-corruption watchdog has sued Bangladesh's former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia on a charge that she used an illegal fund to buy land for a charity named after her late husband.
Deputy Director Harunur Rashid said the Anti-corruption Commission's investigation found no known sources of the money used to buy the land for the charity during her premiership in 2001-2006. Zia is the head of the charity named after late President Ziaur Rahman. The case filed Monday is part of a criminal investigation.
The corruption charge involves donations of up to 78 million takas ($1.05 million). Zia aide Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir says the government has filed the case out of political vengeance.
