Ranked 54th  out of 247 by the International Judo Federation in his weight class, Majrashi is expected to improve by 10 notches at least since his bronze medal finish in this Olympic qualifying event was worth 40 points boosting his total ranking points to 178.

“Majrashi played well.  In fact very well and if he kept moving in the same direction he will book himself a seat in London 2012,” said Saudi national judo coach Mohammed Subei of Majrashi’s performance.

Subai said Majrashi did several competitions and training camps and the financial support from the new program (Olympic Falcon) to prepare athletes to qualify for the Olympics by the General Presidency of Youth Welfare is showing its benefits. “It is not just me, but a lot of our international judo coaches watching him today praised his techniques which makes us all proud. Thank God,” he said.

According to Majrashi, “ The competition wasn’t easy. These are world class athletes, but I tried to put the pressure aside and focus on my goal to be able to reach the Olympics and give honor to my country at an international and respectable level.”

“I don’t know what to say more but I’m overwhelmed and I promise to do my best and get back here for the Olympics and succeed,” the 25-year-old Saudi judoka said.

Yassir Ayyad, another Saudi judo Olympic hopeful, was with Majrashi in Liverpool but missed competing in the -73 kg weight category due to injury.

The team flew to Abu Dhabi for the Grand Prix Judo Abu Dhabi this month. They will travel to Doha in December for the 12th Arab Games.
