Babtain crushes Paparotti in Commissioner Cup

Al Babtain Contracting Company of Henry A. Zoleta downed Paparotti 96-73 in the 3rd Commissioner Cup Invitational Basketball tournament at the Al Yamama Hotel basketball court on Old Airport Road here.
Babtain hardly met any resistance from the young Paparotti team of Jabbar Patara & Louie Mulles.
The winning team jumped out to an early lead to close the first two quarters ahead at 29-17 and 49-33 courtesy of James Smith, Sherwin Garcia, Roel Asay, Marlon Pening who made the first three-point score of the game and Jun Cortez.
The third quarter saw John Paul Loreno of Paparotti hit the icebreaker. Loreno then joined up with Raymond and Rommel Alcasabas, Howard Pantonia and Schubert Reposar to help Paparotti break the tight defense of Al Babtain and to trim Babtain’s lead by a hairline 65-64.
In the final period, Paparotti squad tried in vain to get back in the game, as Babtain coach Zoleta’s charges held tight on defense on the way to victory.
The league featuring four open category had Senator team of Robert “Lance” Quiambao beating BMTC of Noel Domingo and Joemani Bambilla 105-92 on opening day. Louie Chang and Jun Perez led the winning team with 28 and 23 points while Eman Santos and Jaime Hernandez paced BMTC with 24 and 20 points respectively.
Tess P. Garcia is the league commissioner for three years now and is being supported by Tom Portuguez, Abel Dayrit, Richard Asay, Alvin Sumayo and Jake Buban. The Filipino Confederation of Basketball Referees (FCBR) headed by Ernie Dela Cruz and Ed Tamayo is in charge of the tournament officiating.
