Barca matches increase cafe profits

FC Barcelona club’s matches in the leagues of UEFA champions and Spain attract a lot of spectators to coffee shops in Jeddah to watch their favorite team. This increases the coffee shops’ profits by 100 percent.
The high turnout of customers force some coffee shops to close their doors during Barcelona’s match, as they can't seat any more customers. The classic matches between Real Madrid and Barcelona make cafe owners wary of possible tension between spectators during the match.
“The Spanish League contributed to our profits due to a high turnout of customers to watch Real Madrid or Barcelona’s matches. This turnout pushed us to add more seats and improve the coffee shop’s decor to accommodate attendees,” said Ali Abdul Ruhman Al-Souissi, owner of a coffee shop in Jeddah.
“The main problem is how to control the crowded place during the match. Many attendees watch their favorite team with fervor. We fear trouble as a result of tension between rival supporters,” Al-Souissi added.
Some large coffee shops on Sitteen Street in Jeddah sell tickets for SR 5 to watch the matches. These tickets allow customers to find a seat to watch the game without ordering food or drinks.
“This guarantees income, especially when a coffee shop receives a lot of customers during matches between Barcelona and Real Madrid. We cannot allow anyone to leave after the match without paying their bills,” said an Egyptian worker in a cafe.
