The 31-strong teams vying for semifinal slots in the 32nd FBA basketball tournament are now in their last leg of the elimination round.
Early qualifiers from the Inter-Company Bona fide Division Group are Bright Star Communication (BSC) of coach Ian Diez and team manager Lino Oliva, Saudi Oger Company of coach Greg Cabigon and team manager Yaroub Mikati. For the Inter-Hotel Division, there’s defending champion Al-Bilad Hotel of team manager Manny Untalasco, head coach Ver Macalinao and assistant coach Doy Capoquian and Jeddah Hilton Hotel of team manager and head coach Jojo De Ocampo. In the Inter-Commercial Open Non-rated Division are Maharlikans-Aida’s Cuisine, Paninos, Unidecor and Nexus, while Samco-Juffali of coach Elmer Goze and team manager Glen Berdin and Arjed Catering of coach Francis Magat and manager Roger Cabacang are leading the Open Rated Division.
Here’s a brief summary of last weekend’s games:
Rosewood Corniche Hotel (78) defeated Movenpicj Jeddah Hotel (68), Jolly Tilo adjudged best player. Bright Star Communication (BSC) won by default against Nesma & Partners. Nexus (96) of coach Jhong Lim beat AVK Company (84), Bajas adjudged as best player. Al-Hamrani Co. (RBF) defeted SAPMT-KAUST 75-72 and Jason Villanueva declared as best player of the game. Nesma Holding Company (78) handed equally strong team Saudi Oger its first defeat (67). Castillo was named best player. Tetra Pak (60) beat Unicoil (53), Louiejie best player of the game. Hyatt Park Jeddah Hotel of team manager Mohammed Bardai stunned Jeddah Hilton Hotel in seesaw battle, 100-90. Movenpick Resort-Al-Nawras (97) downed
Inter-Continental Jeddah Hotel (95) mighty-might Osorio was best player of the game. Al-Bilad Hotel beat Sheraton Jeddah Hotel of coach Rene Galvan 70-63 and Dula was again adjudged as best player. Open Rated Division: Hal Consultants of team manager Bong Laxamana, head coach Arnold Atienza and assistant coach Allen Ng surprised Samco-Juffali 97-95. The game was so intense and Mark Basa converted from the perimeter in the dying seconds for the game winning shot for Hal Consultants. Basa was the best player of the game.
