Al-Amoudi Holding Company is raising awareness among motorists on the most important causes of tire damage as part of its Salamatak and corporate social responsibility campaign.

The issues highlighted include choosing inappropriate tires for the vehicle, worn out roads, driving at high speed, road hazards such as potholes and glass, overloading and inaccurate inflation pressures.

These factors have a direct impact on life expectancy of tires and safety.

Hilal Al-Amoudi, technical manager, said: “Taking care of the previous factors will not only help to prolong the life of the tire, but also to ensure the safety of the vehicle and reduce the need for maintenance. Tires are directly connected with brakes and some other main parts of the vehicle.”

His advice is to check the air pressure on all four tires, making sure to inflate them to the recommended pressure.

The manufacturer’s recommended inflation pressure is on the label attached to the driver’s side door. It is important that once every month, or before embarking upon long road trips, the car’s tread is road ready and checked to see if tires are showing unusual wear or damaged.

There are several driving habits that will affect the life expectancy of tires.

Poor driving habits like hard acceleration, hard braking such as continuously approaching an intended stop too rapidly and striking the curb with the side of the tire or driving through pot holes can also result in dangerous situations for tires.

Everyone should modify his driving habits to remain safe on the road.

Tires have their characteristics in terms of ratings stamped on the sidewall.

The ratings to be concerned with are the load rating at maximum air pressure, speed rating, handling ability and traction in wet weather.
