Saudi Aramco Company is currently implementing the largest marine environmental project for fish spawning on Abu Ali Island, which is designed to produce about 10 million small fish from the Gulf annually, Abdullah Al-Baiz, executive director of engineering services at the company, says.

Al-Baiz added: "Saudi Aramco is working on the rehabilitation of the region by specialized international companies, and the project will be completed during the current year. The company is always keen on the preservation of the environment at all of the implemented projects.”

This came during the opening of the 8th Symposium and Exhibition on Environmental Progress in the Petroleum and Petrochemical Industry (Petro-Environment 2016), by Khalid Al-Battal, undersecretary of the Eastern Province.

The three-day event ended on Feb. 24 and was held at Dhahran International Exhibition Center, under the slogan, Partnership for a Sustainable Environment.

Osama Fageeha, chairman of the PetroEnvironment 2016, said the Kingdom has always shown its interest at one of the world's largest producers of oil and petrochemicals.

He said: "The three-day event discussed 13 points, including climate change, the 21st UN Climate Change Conference in Paris, its results and impacts on the world and the region, studies on biodiversity in land, sea and air environments, as well as the latest developments regarding the so-called renewable and clean energy in the oil and petrochemical industry."

Khalid Abdul-Qader, chairman of the scientific committee of the forum, said: "Saudi Aramco is working on reducing the proportion of sulfur dioxide emissions from diesel to 95 percent,

thereby enhancing the air quality in all parts of the Kingdom."

He explained that the process of using the new technologies should serve two important elements; namely, preserving the environment and increasing production. Thus, the technologies that provide these two elements are considered the most useful for oil companies.
