Demand for separate state

The demand of separate Telangana state is very old. It is a provocative issue which creates sharp divisions and polarization in the state of Andhra Pradesh from which a state of Telangana is to be carved out. After months of consultations and deliberations between the state and central government officials, it was expected that a separate Telangana state would become a reality.
And various Telangana leaders, parties and people were expecting an announcement to this effect from the central government in Delhi this week. But their expectations and hopes were shattered when the central government preferred to be silent on the issue.
It is disturbing and shocking that when Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is also in charge of the party affairs in Andhra Pradesh, was reminded of the central government’s commitment on Dec. 28, 2012, that a decision on the issue would be made within a month, Azad said he did not think that one month meant exactly 30 days. It could be a few days more.
“When one says tomorrow, it does not mean tomorrow morning. When one says one week, sometimes it is two weeks,” he said. In my opinion Azad has has proved himself to a “perfect” politician. — Zakaria Sultan, Riyadh
