Euro fever

Euro 2012 is definitely this year’s biggest event in football. After the World Cup, this is the biggest and may even be considered more exciting because of the stronger teams in the fold. Every football lover knows that Europe is the strongest continent in football and only Brazil and Argentina can compete with European powers. Every football fan is looking forward to this competition every four years.
Now that the 4 big teams are revealed, the anticipation is overwhelming. All the four teams are World Cup winners except for Portugal. But this is not to say Portugal is less deserving and one should not underestimate its potentials. This team has showed great skills and winning spirit led by its captain, the Real Madrid best player Cristiano Ronaldo.
Portugal is definitely in good hands and can stand up to Spain, considered by many as the toughest team. Football analysts have very high expectations of Spain as they are the reigning Euro and World Cup champions with too many talented players. Even their substitutes were carefully selected making them one very tough team. But in football, anything can happen and Portugal does not fall far behind.
In the other semifinal, Italy, the four-time world champion, faces three- time-world champion and one of the greatest and most feared teams in the history of football, Germany. Germany has four straight wins and a full mark of points in the group level. Italy, on the other hand, has Cesare Prandelli, the coach who changed the team’s playing tactics. They no longer play defensively but brings better football and strikes more often. In my opinion, though, they could benefit from some new blood. The average age of their players is about 28 years old, not so young for football. Winning against Germany would put Italy an arm’s length away to the championship.
