RIYADH: Nine Omani Umrah pilgrims, on their way back home, were killed and 34 were injured, in a road accident which took place near Khurais, between Riyadh and Al-Ahsa province.
According to police, the coach carrying the pilgrims collided with a tractor which was coming from the opposite direction. The injured patients were admitted to hospitals in Riyadh and Al-Ahsa.
Fahd bin Othman Al-Ghamdi, spokesman for the Saudi Red Crescent in the Eastern Province, said that he received an emergency call from an eyewitness to the accident soon after midnight. He then summoned air ambulances and seven ambulances from Riyadh and Al-Ahsa.
On hearing the news, officials at Al-Ahsa General Hospital rushed 24 medical teams to the accident site to help the injured.
