RIYADH: The nation will today celebrate the first year of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman’s reign, which has been characterized by prioritizing economic growth and tackling terrorism and other regional challenges.
Citizens will be able to mark a year when their country has remained stable and secure, there has been a push to modernize state agencies and institutions, and seen further improvements in education and health, according to the Saudi Press Agency on Tuesday.
The report stated that the king has committed his government to provide for everyone, but particularly the “needy before the rich and villages before cities, to achieve balanced and comprehensive development.”
Although projects — especially large ones such as ports, economic cities such as the King Abdullah Financial City, and roads and railroads — take a while to construct, the effect has already been felt in terms of economic activity, jobs, strengthening of the property sector and better incomes, the report stated.
While the Kingdom has been turned into a large “workshop” the rest of the world has been going through a severe financial crisis. This is the reason why citizens have pledged their loyalty to the country’s leadership, particularly King Salman, for whom there is “affection and love in their hearts.”
The report stated further that King Salman “has spared no effort” in ensuring that there is equal emphasis on local and global matters, considering his intense activities over the past year.
Last year he attended the opening ceremony of the second world congress on the history of King Abdulaziz and then later launched the King Fahd exhibition entitled “Spirit of Leadership.”
He also opened the project to develop Al-Bujairi district in Al-Diriyah, followed by the founding of the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Aid, where he laid the foundation stone for the permanent headquarters of the center.
In terms of foreign policy, he led the Kingdom’s delegation to the 26th Arab Summit held in the Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh on March 28, where he highlighted the country’s plan to fight terrorism and extremism at all levels.
He spoke about the pain being endured by citizens of several Arab nations because of the actions of terrorist groups in cooperation with certain countries, which through their “blatant interventions” are attempting to undermine regional security and stability, particularly Yemen and Syria.
On the Palestinian cause, he said the Kingdom remained committed to a just and comprehensive peace, including the right of the Palestinians to establish an independent state with Al-Quds as its capital.
