JEDDAH: Salama district police are looking for a two-member gang who robbed an expatriate worker of SR 115,000 yesterday while he was going to bank to deposit the amount of his company. The duo ran away after grabbing the money.
The incident took place in the Salama district of Jeddah yesterday as Machinjeri Kunhappa, an Indian was going to deposit the amount in NCB along Sari Street for customs clearance after withdrawing SR 150,000 from Saudi British Bank in the district.
The gang attacked him while he was going to NCB with a bag containing the money after parking his car near the bank, Kunhappa told Arab News.
“They hit me from behind. As a result, I fell down while holding the envelope containing the money. Bundles of 500 riyal notes fell on the ground and the gang members made off with them.
“There were bundles of 100 riyal notes which they could not take as they had fallen a bit far,” he pointed out. When people gathered hearing his cries for help the criminals disappeared in a blue Toyota Yaris.
Nobody could note the car’s registration number. The other member of the gang was inside the car. Kunhappa, who sustained injuries on his face, has been admitted to King Fahd Hospital. The Indian worker has not yet recovered from the shock from the attack.
