The death toll from a gas cylinder explosion at a traditional restaurant in Waziriyah district in south Jeddah has risen to five. All five who died in the accident are Saudis.
An informed source identified the five as Ali Mahdi Ali, Abdullah Saeed Al-Harithy, Ahmed Ali Al-Shamrani, Muetaz Hamid Al-Sulami and Khaled Saad Al-Amri.
A total 24 Saudis and Yemenis were injured in the fire that was caused by the blast last Saturday and the injured were taken to King Abdul Aziz and King Fahd hospitals in the city.
Lt. Col. Saeed Sarhan, spokesman of Civil Defense in the Makkah province, said the fire engulfed an area of 150 sq. meters of the restaurant. He said the injured included some of the restaurant’s customers and workers.
Police launched an investigation into the blast with the help of forensic experts and found that it was caused by an explosion of a gas cylinder. Jamia Municipality has sealed the restaurant as security agents and forensic experts continue their investigation.
