As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) the InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG) has created, since 2011, the IHG Academy whose aim is to provide enhanced training and employment opportunities in the hospitality field for people in the local communities where it operates.
As a result of this CSR initiative, the Intercontinental Alkhobar recently made an agreement with the Institute of Public Administration (IPA) in Dammam to facilitate summer trainings and cross exposure trainings in the various departments of the hotel for IPA students, in line with their graduate program.
Additionally, those trained students who seek to join the hospitality industry, will be granted first priority for employment within Intercontinental Alkhobar.
Commenting on the agreement, Josef Sorger, regional GM for Intercontinental hotels in the Eastern Province, said: “This program presents our hotels with a great chance to get involved and play an active role in the community. It allows us to leverage our various hotels’ resources to provide job opportunities for the local youths and develop Saudi nationals to take on more responsibilities in the hospitality sector.”
Intercontinental Alkhobar is dedicated to move forward with its long-term plan of increasing the number of Saudi employees, which stands at 24 percent today.
The hotel figures in the Nitaqat program’s green category.
Some of the current jobs that Saudi nationals are responsible for at the hotel include HR manager, government relations manager, duty manager, security manager, security staff, HR officers, accountants, sales executives, laundry staff, buyers, sous-chef and demi-chef, electricians, IT technicians, receptionists, guest relations officer and e-Marketing executive.
