Crime rate in Jeddah fell for the fourth year in a row, according to a local police report. There was a fall of 4.42 percent in crimes reported during 2011 compared to the previous year.
There was also a considerable decrease in the number of unsolved crimes. This information was contained in Jeddah police’s annual statistical report presented to Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal by Jeddah Police Director Maj. Gen. Ali Al-Saadi Al-Ghamdi.
Prince Khaled was briefed on the report during a reception at his office on Wednesday. Jeddah Gov. Prince Mishaal bin Majed also attended the reception.
Speaking to Arab News, Maj. Gen. Al-Ghamdi said his department was able to achieve this because of the great efforts exerted by all branches of the general security forces in cooperation and coordination with other agencies concerned.
“We have worked out security plans and a professional strategy to closely monitor suspected criminal gangs before raiding their hideouts in all parts of the region. We are keen on bringing these criminals to justice and punishing them in accordance with the laws of the land,” he added.
