I read with interest the article “Self-control: The key to success in life” (May 11) by Saad Al-Dosari. I fully agree with the views expressed by the writer. Self-control is undoubtedly the key to success in this world and the Hereafter. If we study the Islamic rituals, we will realize that all those rituals inculcate the habit of self-control in the believers. Unfortunately, we take religious teachings for granted and we don’t try to understand the basic aim of all rituals and acts of worship. It is very important to fully understand the true spirit of religion. Islam is a complete code of life and its teachings govern all aspects of the human life. Even when it comes to one’s dietary habits, there are numerous prophetic sayings or Hadiths guiding Muslims on this issue. Similarly, there are many Qur’anic verses and Hadiths on the issue of interpersonal dealings. — Rahat Ahmed, Riyadh
