This is with reference to the article “Turkey’s Syrian dilemma” (July 1) by Abdulrahman Al-Rashed. Turkey is going through a difficult phase. Results of the recently held election in Turkey have also added to some problems.
All Turkish political parties should realize that the situation of the region is not good and an unnecessary tug of war between them will only render Turkey weak and prone to external threats. The Justice and Development Party of President Recep Teyyip Erdogan should convene a conference wherein all political forces should deliberate over the country’s foreign and domestic policies and the changes required to tackle the worsening regional situation and to ensure protection of Turkish interests. The Turks should think as one nation while introducing any changes to their foreign policies. They should forge unity among their ranks for the greater good of the country. — Javed Yaqoub, Riyadh
