I read with interest the report “Women reject a dowry cap” (Aug. 29). I fully support the proposal by Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal. I believe that restricting marriage dowry to a certain level is the only way to resolve the issue of the increasing number of unmarried people in the Saudi society.
I read comments from some women criticizing the proposals. They are not thinking in the long-term. Dowry has become a huge problem in the Third World countries. In many countries, paying or receiving dowry in any form has been declared illegal. — Hatim Maqbool, Dammam
