Malayan Tigers win ASEAN Futsal Championship

With superb skill, teamwork and supremacy, the Consulate General of Malaysia team, nicknamed Malayan Tigers, emerged as the inaugural champions of ASEAN 6-Nation Futsal Tournament here recently.
The game hosted by the Brunei Consulate was attended by all six ASEAN consulates in Jeddah namely Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
The 5-a-side tournament was played in accordance with FIFA’s rules and regulations with teams divided into two groups for preliminary round matches.
Skippered by Consul General Mohammed Khalid Abbasi Abdul Razak, Malaysia strolled into semis after overpowering both Thailand and the Philippines with comfortable margins.
In the first semifinal, the Malayan Tigers continued remarkable scoring displaying superb skills to brush aside Indonesia with a 6-4 victory.
In second semis, Brunei overpowered Thailand 5-0 to face off Malaysia in the final. The winning streak was unbroken as Malayan Tigers stunned the host 3-0 to claim both the inaugural ASEAN Futsal Champion and Challenge Trophy.
