The Jeddah Municipality has assigned an international company to develop new blueprints for transport systems to alleviate constant traffic jams in the city.
The blueprints will put in place strategies for up to 2030.
The Jeddah Municipality and its partners plan to provide a transportation system that is in line with the development of the province to make it an attractive place to live, work and visit, including highway maintenance and developing alternative transport facilities.
To make that happen, the municipality is looking for a transport system that will cover the current and future needs for residents and visitors.
The project, which will be implemented by 2030, will cover light rail networks, trams, trains and buses.
The strategy will encourage collaboration with railway service providers, airports and ports.
The municipality will attempt to develop a road safety team that will aim to reduce accidents, regulate traffic, improve safety, conduct traffic studies, erect signs, set up traffic signals and work with the police and Ministry of Transport.
The municipality is also conducting studies to estimate the need for parking lots and developing strategies for parking lot management. It will also develop an authority to look after parking lots that will be governed by the municipality.
The municipality also aims to encourage walking and riding bikes while ensuring the safety and needs of pedestrians and bikers.
