The Labor Ministry is studying plans to introduce a payment scheme for citizens terminated from jobs until they get new jobs.
“The scheme will be implemented with contributions from workers as well as their employers,” said Mufrej Al-Haqabani, deputy labor minister.
“When a Saudi national is terminated from job he will receive a salary until he gets another job,” he said.
Al-Haqabani did not say when the new scheme would be implemented.
Meanwhile, Ahmed Al-Humaidan, deputy minister for labor affairs, pointed out that 500,000 private firms in the Kingdom do not have a single Saudi worker.
He disclosed plans to increase the number of Saudi nationals in the retail trade sector, which currently employs more than 1 million foreigners.
“Most citizens prefer to work for the public sector because government employees receive 160 days of annual holidays while their private sector counterparts only 80 days,” Al-Humaidan pointed out.
The General Organization of Social Insurance said four million Saudi nationals registered with it receive a monthly salary of SR 1,000 while 171,000 receive only SR 1,500.
