ZURICH: FIFA says it will host South Africa’s sports minister and top football official on Friday for talks on allegations that the 2010 World Cup host’s warm-up matches were fixed.
FIFA has threatened South Africa with suspension from world football if a proposed judicial inquiry interferes in the national football body’s handling of the case.
FIFA says its secretary general Jerome Valcke is meeting Minister of Sports Fikile Mbalula and South African Football Association President Kirsten Nematandani.
Nematandani was briefly suspended by SAFA last December after a FIFA report found “compelling” evidence that World Cup preparation matches were fixed.
SAFA acknowledged it had been “infiltrated” by convicted match-fixer Wilson Raj Perumal, who appointed referees.
FIFA says Friday’s meeting will “make sure all parties do have the same level of information.”
