An eminent Pakistan medical professor and two family members died in a road accident in Makkah on Sunday afternoon.
Dr. Javed Alam, a professor and department head of a top medical institution in Karachi, was in the Kingdom to perform Umrah with his wife Kahkashan Javed, sister Qaiser Shakeel and a relative.
On their way to Madinah after performing Umrah, their car collided with another vehicle at a flyover. Alam, his wife and sister died at the scene, while the injured driver was rushed to Hera General Hospital in Makkah by rescue teams.
Alam is considered a philanthropist in Karachi, according to sources. He has performed numerous operations to help poor children with hearing and speech disabilities.
Arrangements for the family’s burial today were made by Syed Tahaseemul Haq, vice consul, community welfare section of the Pakistan Consulate in Jeddah, according to Mohammed Vaqar, a close relative of the deceased.
Visas were also arranged for family members to travel from Pakistan to Saudi Arabia for the burials. The Pakistan community lauded the consulate for organizing the visas at short notice.
