Saudi Arabia yesterday emphasized its firm stand on strengthening international cooperation to get rid of weapons of mass destruction and prevent their proliferation. The Kingdom stressed its support to efforts for a WMD-free Middle East.
Saudi Arabia also urged countries possessing chemical weapons to complete the destruction of their stockpiles following deadlines set by the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.
These comments were made by Prince Turki bin Mohammed, undersecretary at the Foreign Ministry for multilateral relations and chairman of the National Commission for Implementation of the Agreements Banning Chemical and Biological Weapons, while addressing the 3rd Review Conference of the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons at The Hague.
As for the information on the use of chemical weapons in the Syrian conflict there, the Saudi official emphasized the Kingdom’s support to the investigation to be conducted by the UN in cooperation with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.
