An innovative elementary teacher is implementing teaching programs through modern technologies and social media tools. With these, he provides an interesting classroom environment for his students, and keeps in touch with their parents.
Third grade teacher Mohammad Al-Ghanmi at Yahya bin Aktham primary school in Abha explained that he equipped his classroom with PlayStation devices, external speakers, an electronic wallboard for honor, in addition to a projector screen.
The students are given the opportunity to use PS devices for specified periods, and only after finishing their work in class. Al-Ghanmi indicated that this technique has successfully caused a kind of good competition among students, and made school more enjoyable for them.
The internal speaker system is connected with wireless loudspeakers that have been placed in the corners of the classroom. When a pupil answers through the loudspeaker, and he hears his voice clearly and stately, it will reflect positively on him, said Al-Ghanmi.
The teacher prints out weekly homework assignments sheets and distributes them to students. At the same time he sends a copy to parents via Whatsapp or E-mail on daily basis. This way he keeps the parents updated on the pupil’s achievements and progress. He also sends their corrected and graded daily homework to the student’s guardian to provide positive interaction between him and parents.
Al-Ghanmi also brings biscuits and candies as incentives for students, which increases their interaction with the lessons and assignments.
The teacher hopes to get support from the General Directorate of Education to improve and enhance the level of student learning.
